I built Belgian Balance because I couldn’t ignore what was happening to beer. Consumption was declining, sure, but the real loss wasn’t just “less beer”. It was fewer nights out, fewer shared moments, fewer spontaneous meetups. In Belgium, that hits differently. Beer isn’t just a drink here, it’s part of our cultural heritage and our social glue. Yet more and more occasions were becoming less inclusive, because alcohol simply doesn’t fit every moment, or everyone.

So I chose a different path: keep the ritual, remove the alcohol, and raise the standard. I refused to make “beer, but less”. I wanted an alcohol-free Belgian beer that stands on its own, with real body, real balance, and a taste you’d proudly serve. Because I’m Belgian and stubborn, compromise was never the plan.

In partnership with Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), we developed Sociotonin™, a functional blend made of ginseng, green tea extract, and magnesium, designed to match the real “beer moment”: to relax, unwind, and connect. The result is an alcohol-free beer that doesn’t just imitate the category, it elevates the experience.
